Enamoured: 80 Years of Revlon Exhibition Launch

Last night myself, Roxy and Sheree hauled our hungover derrières to the The London Film Museum for the opening of the highly anticipated Enamoured exhibition, celebrating 80 years of Revlon. A glass of Nicolas Feuilatte champagne firmly placed in each of our hands, we 'oohed' and 'ahhed' at the retrospective, detailing the highly influential and innovative moments taken from the iconic brand's history. Amidst make-up inspired installations created by contemporary artists including Alex Noble, Samantha Hill and Bobby John Patmore, nail polish addicts were treated to manicures and shown how to re-create the red and black enamoured design. Despite the glamourous surroundings, we still found ourselves having a chocolate truffle fight. The squeezy pippettes they were served up on proved to hard to resist. The exhibition runs until Sunday, so make sure you head to Covent Garden over the weekend and take a look for yourself.

First and Forever

Last Friday Dr Martens invited me to preview their latest video campaign starring Agyness Deyn and Ash Stymest at the Aubin cinema in Shoreditch. After watching the nostalgic film - and enjoying one too many espresso martinis - it was time to get personal and share my ‘first’ experiences on their site. Dare you enter yours..?

Forever 21

Forever 21 opens a gigantic new store in the UK tomorrow and last week I celebrated the launch at The Old Sorting Office, just off Oxford Street. The party was LA themed and decked out like Santa Monica beachfront with huts, deckchairs 'n' all.  We indulged in gourmet burgers via the ‘Meat Wagon’ (huge, pink and dripping with cheese) prosecco cocktails and ginger mules from the teepee bars and were entertained by a spinning carousel (yes, we did jump on),  fortune tellers, circus performers, roller girls, hot bar boys and Bip Ling on the decks.

It Started With A Backpack...

Photo: Naag.com

Every Fashion Week we set eyes upon an item so perfect that it fills us with a ferocious, green-eyed kind of wanting — and back at the February shows in London, said item was J. JS Lee’s low-slung backpack. Hanging somewhere between a schoolgirl satchel and a gentleman’s briefcase, we conceded that this carryall would not only lend us the androgynous yet ladylike look we crave, but was also large enough to store the mass of not-so-necessities we feel the need to lug around on a daily basis.

Fast forward a few months and it’s not just Lee’s backpacks we’re hankering after.  Having launched her eponymous label in 2010, the Central St Martin’s MA graduate debuted her SS11 collection at Dover Street Market. While we’ve been pretty obsessed with the asymmetric cuts and muted colour palette of these pieces, it’s the coordinating separates in the AW11 collection we’re holding out for. Satin, suede and pleated chiffon dress up an otherwise minimal range of long-line suit jackets, tulip skirts and tapered trousers – all promising to add a sharp, masculine edge to even the girliest of ensembles.

Lee's keen eye for detail and relaxed approach to tailoring has scored her high; one of last season’s prestigious NEWGEN recipients, the Korean-born designer also bagged the Harrods Design Award – not bad considering she only graduated two years ago. But while Lee is no doubt busying herself crafting yet another achingly beautiful collection, the sewn down sleeves, embossed seams and that backpack from the AW11 shows are finally making their way to Dover Street Market. By the end of the month our not-so-necessities will be hidden in a holdall so chic, no-one will ever guess the inner laptop and smartphone compartments are filled with half eaten packets of jelly babies and used concert tickets. Now we just need to decide whether we want ours in dove-grey, tan, or black…
